CIL has been facilitating Green India Mission and creating sustainable footprints through sustained afforestation to increase green cover and has been converting degraded land into ecologically restored land.
An App “Green CIL” has been developed by Coal India Limited (CIL) to make public aware of the eco-friendly activities of CIL by showcasing:
1. Efforts taken to minimize the footprints of coal mining on land
2. No. of saplings planted by each subsidiary and location of plantation sites
3. Plantation carried out by subsidiaries of CIL and covers technical and
biological reclamation on mined out areas, avenue and block plantation
since nationalization
4. It Includes all the afforestation at opencast and underground mines and
encompasses details of project-wise afforestation, as well as total forest
area diverted for mining
It has two features: Plantation and Image Gallery
PLANTATION:
The feature shows subsidiary wise plantation which can be viewed under the following heads
1. Area wise plantation
2. Project wise plantation
3. Placement Mark navigates the user to the location of plantation sites on
Google Map. However, there may be more than one plantation locations
in the vicinity of these marks
IMAGE GALLERY:
1. Geo-tagged photographs of coal mine/ projects are available in image
gallery
2. Plantation locations can be seen on Google Earth
HIGHLIGHTS:
1. Total plantation carried out by CIL is 92.45 million as on 31st March, 2016.
2. Equivalent to about 350 sq km of green cover with carbon sink of nearly
1,00,000 te / yr
